A call to make Bozburun its own district
Former mayor Salih Taşkın proposed district status for Bozburun, where about 200 wooden gulets operate.
According to Taşkın, the present administrative structure does not match the area’s economic weight or its needs. With boatbuilding, blue cruises, tourism, a customs gate and maritime training, he says Bozburun has outgrown the scale of a neighbourhood.
The area has tourist beds for 1,500 to 2,000 people afloat and about 1,500 ashore. Bozburun used to be a town municipality; when Muğla became a metropolitan municipality it turned into a neighbourhood of Marmaris.
