The Amateur Seaman’s Certificate has changed: ADB 10 and ADB 24

Under the new regulation the Amateur Seaman’s Certificate has two levels. Below is which certificate lets you use which boat.

  • Holders of the old certificate: if you do not complete the ADB 24 theory course and renew within 5 years of the regulation entering into force, your certificate counts as ADB 10.
  • ADB 10 holders under 18 may steer a boat when an adult holding at least ADB 10 is on board with them.
  • Using a boat without a certificate, or one longer than your certificate allows, brings an administrative fine. The regulation sets it at 2,500 TL per metre of overall length, raised every year by the revaluation rate.
  • No certificate is required for boats under 10 horsepower, rowing boats, canoes and kayaks, or racing class sailing dinghies.
